90 Doosan sees New Opportunities in Recovering Economy ( Mar. 31, 2010 )
The tough economic conditions of the past few years are coming to an end, and it’s time for machine tool builders and their distributors to get back to work with new products, new offerings, and new directions.

That was the message communicated by Doosan at its 16th annual distributor meeting held March 4-7 in Orlando, FL. Representatives from more than 50 distributor organizations located throughout North, Central and South America listened as Doosan described aggressive programs intended to help its customers take advantage of emerging growth opportunities. Guest speaker Peter Borden, President of the American Machine Tool Distributors Association, echoed Doosan’s optimism. His presentation demonstrated America’s dominance in world economics, and reaffirmed the long awaited recovery that’s developing in the manufacturing segment.

New machines with advanced features were previewed, many of which will be introduced during 2010. Already available is the new Lynx 300, suitable for 3” bar stock, to fill a vital niche in the Lynx family of economical turning centers. Other turning centers and machining centers are targeted for introduction during late summer and early autumn.

To communicate new product introductions and special purchase opportunities, Doosan plans an aggressive communication program. The distributors offered a standing ovation when informed that Doosan will exhibit its new machines in a front-row booth at this year’s IMTS. As a further benefit to its customers, Doosan is offering huge savings on key turning centers and machining centers as part of the company’s 30th anniversary in North America. To further help customers gear up for increased manufacturing demands, the company’s financial group is offering special, low interest rates and convenient payment terms. This offering is expected to remain in effect throughout the year.

Although the meeting’s emphasis was the future, there was time also to celebrate the past year. Hales Machinery (Minneapolis, MN) was awarded Doosan Infracore Distributor of the Year for Outstanding Sales Achievement based on market share and machine tool unit sales. The award was presented by JY Lee (Doosan Infracore President, CEO, and DIA), Jim Shiner (General Manager), and Tom Klukow (Regional Sales Manager). Tim Hales accepted the award for Hales Machinery. Other distributors were recognized for their achievements in the five market segments that together comprise North, Central and South America. Awards were accepted by Kevin McCarthy of Syracuse Supply (Cheektowaga, NY) for the Eastern Region, Juan Oetling of Intermag (Guadalajara, Mexico) for the Southern Region, Jim Selway of CNC Solutions (Milpitas, CA) for the Western Region, and Stefan Lee of Meggatech (Cabreuva, Brazil) for Latin and South America. Hales Machinery received its second award of the evening for its performance in the Midwest Region.

Tim Hales expressed the sentiment felt by other distributors when he commented, “This was a great meeting where machine tool groups from across the globe joined with dignitaries from Doosan Infracore Korea to discuss Winning Strategies for the Year 2010 and the New Global Standard in Machine Tool Technology and Products.”
